Spokane Public Schools, Innovia Foundation, the City of Spokane, Spokane County, and the American Red Cross are compiling local resources available to support staff and families impacted by recent wildfires.

    What they offer
    Akin provides Early Learning services through Early Head Start, including through home visitors in our home-based Early Head Start program. Akin's Family Resource Center (FRC) is located in Spokane Valley (2323 N Discovery Place). At our FRC, people from the community can access diapers & wipes, food, and clothing items. Community members can also sign up for appointments to do their laundry for free at our FRC. Child and Family Counseling services are offered at both our FRC and Akin's offices at the Northeast Community Center (4001 N Cook St). Through our counseling program we offer individual, family and group counseling for youth (birth up through roughly age 21) and families. We also may be able to provide counseling for adult caregivers for youth in Akin's programs. Our counseling services are available for individuals with Medicaid and, in a more limited manner, commercial insurance plans as well. We have availabilityin our counseling program for new clients at both locations.

    WILDFIRE UPDATE - WE ARE OPEN THIS WEEK Our office in downtown Spokane is safely outside the evacuation zone. We plan to be open for regular hours this week. Leaders have prioritized the needs of staff and clients whose lives have been disrupted by the fires. They are also assessing how best to support the community. Childcare/Family Support: Every library has a children’s play space for kids to enjoy. We also offer daily free events for all ages to find community and learn something new. View our calendar of events on our website. The library offers books, games, computers for kids, and more. Note: Indian Trail Library and the Five Mile 24/7 Kiosk are closed due to evacuation zones. Hillyard and Shadle Park Libraries are open but without internet access. You can still enjoy children’s play spaces, events, and check out books and materials at these location All other locations are operating as normal.

Cleanup and Debris Removal

Structures damaged by fire may contain asbestos and other hazardous materials. The Spokane Regional Clean Air Agency requires debris to be assessed by an AHERA-certified building inspector before cleanup begins. Review the requirements before engaging contractors or volunteers.

    Akin provides Early Learning services through Early Head Start, including through home visitors in our home-based Early Head Start program. Akin's Family Resource Center (FRC) is located in Spokane Valley (2323 N Discovery Place). At our FRC, people from the community can access diapers & wipes, food, and clothing items. Community members can also sign up for appointments to do their laundry for free at our FRC. Child and Family Counseling services are offered at both our FRC and Akin's offices at the Northeast Community Center (4001 N Cook St). Through our counseling program we offer individual, family and group counseling for youth (birth up through roughly age 21) and families. We also may be able to provide counseling for adult caregivers for youth in Akin's programs. Our counseling services are available for individuals with Medicaid and, in a more limited manner, commercial insurance plans as well. We have availabilityin our counseling program for new clients at both locations.
